Promises, Promises ~ until the election is over

UPDATE: by Harry Wilfer, April 11, 2012 –

I attended the city council meeting last night for the first, and probably last, time. My impression was that of egoistic little-league politicians who actually believe that Weatherford is some kind of metropolis. And as far as blaisdell goes, I can no longer stand the sight of him! Though he was expressionless through the early part of the meeting, his countenance became that of a scowl when the shelter was discussed. He lied and lied and when that didn’t work, he lied some more. I’m not so sure that much will be accomplished for the citizens of weatherford when the city manager position is held by such a dishonest, insincere and self-serving individual.

There were more lies than I care to relive on this blog, and sharon hayes made it sound as if the volunteers hadn’t been of much value in getting pets adopted in the past. Also, her tone mentioning that volunteers would be allowed back to the shelter in limited numbers tells me that the city could care less if they ever allowed them back. The city would probably be content to do without volunteers except for all the negative press they have so rightly received.

So the city can go ahead and hand pick their butt-kissing ‘volunteers’ (and even place them on the advisory committee – another bureaucratic farce). In the past few months I have been called a liar, lied to, stalled, cajoled, redirected and ignored by ‘officials’ that I wouldn’t trust to empty my garbage cans! This city doesn’t want nor do they DESERVE the volunteers they have had in the past.

It ain’t gonna change, that was quite obvious last night. And even if it were possible to replace the entire city government, the stench of this current one would hang in the air for years to come.

With all of the negative publicity that city government has received in news publications and social media you would have thought they would have acted quickly and boldly. Instead the city council apparently waited things out, hoping things would quiet down before election time. Now, however, they are making promises of improvement. Promises of new management, promises of a new volunteer program, promises, promises, promises. It appears to be nothing more than a new political strategy: hold out a carrot until the elections are over.

If the incumbents win, then they can withdraw their plans and go back to business as usual.

Until things at the shelter are actually improved, it’s just a lot of hot air! The promises made a month before the elections could have been made and implemented a month or two ago. For that matter, if officials hadn’t had their heads so far up their butts the problems at the shelter may not have happened at all. All of the incumbents: hooks, hamilton and wilder have to go, then, if they love animals as much as they claim, they will have more free time to volunteer at the shelter they had a hand in fouling up!!!
